Yesterday, the reporter learned from the Zhejiang AOKANG shoe industry Limited by Share Ltd that AOKANG has formally appealed to the European Union's high court against the anti-dumping cases of leather shoes before the court of first instance.

The move marks the last stage in the legal process of the lawsuit between Chinese shoe companies and the European Union.


It is reported that in October 2006, the European Union formally launched a 16.5% year anti-dumping duty on leather shoes originating in China.

AOKANG and other 5 Chinese shoe companies believe that the European Commission has violated the law in the investigation process, and filed a judicial review in December 2006 to the European Court of first instance.

The lawsuit that lasted nearly 4 years finally came to an end in March 2010: the European Court of first instance rejected the claim of 5 Chinese shoe companies.


"The EU has imposed restrictions on leather shoes exported to China for nearly 15 years."

Wang Zhentao, chairman of Limited by Share Ltd, said that the reason why AOKANG continued to appeal to the EU high court was because the EU's "unfair treatment" of Chinese leather shoes could not be accepted by Chinese shoe enterprises. "There should be a settlement. This is the reason why AOKANG continues to pursue its legal proceedings in the end," she said.


According to the latest statistics from China Leather Industry Association, the previous anti-dumping duty resulted in a 20% reduction in the output of Chinese leather shoes exported to Europe.

About 40 million pairs of shoes were exported to the EU, which caused about twenty thousand workers to lose their jobs.
