According to statistics from Vietnam's Statistics Bureau, Vietnam's import and export volume was about 109 billion 210 million dollars in 2007, of which imports were US $60 billion 830 million, an increase of 35.5% over the same period last year; exports of US $483.8, an increase of 21.5% over the previous year, and a trade deficit of 12 billion 450 million US dollars.

Among the bulk imports, machinery and equipment amounted to 10 billion 300 million US dollars, refined oil 7 billion 500 million US dollars and Steel 4 billion 800 million. In bulk export commodities, crude oil was US $8 billion 470 million, textiles 7 billion 780 million US dollars, footwear 3 billion 900 million US dollars, aquatic products 3 billion 790 million US dollars, and rice 1 billion 400 million US dollars.
