Internationally renowned brands like Nike have already disclosed chemical substance management policies on the website, but they are not complete. They still lack practical and detailed plans, and refuse to disclose information to their consumers about toxic and harmful substances emitted by their suppliers. They are considered to be "floating green".

According to the latest report released by the international environmental protection organization, "Tong Liu He pollution" is a global brand.

Children's wear

A survey of toxic and hazardous substances residues showed that all 12 children's clothing brands, including Burberry, Adidas (Adidas) and Disney (Disney), were all tested for toxic and harmful substances, of which over 1/3 were produced in China.

Environmental groups require these brands to immediately eliminate toxic and harmful substances that are used and discharged in their supply chain.

12 international brand children's clothing contains poison.

It is understood that the samples were collected from May to June in 2013, and 82 samples of children and infant clothing were purchased in 25 countries and regions in the world. The samples were produced in 12 countries such as China, and 12 brands detected toxic and harmful substances.

According to the survey report, 61% of the samples were detected nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (hereinafter referred to as NPE), and 12 of the brands involved in the test had at least one sample of children's clothing, and NPE residues were detected.

Of the 82 samples of children's clothing, 50 samples were found to contain NPE, ranging from 1.2 mg / kg to 17000 mg / kg.

Among them, there were 3 samples of NPE residues exceeding 1000 mg / kg, including Disney's children's skirt (TX13040) (3900 mg / kg), C&A's TX13030 (17000 mg / kg), and American Apparel's Baby Dress (TX13015) (2000 mg / kg).

In addition, Burberry's T-shirt (TX13025) also detected NPE residues of 780 mg / kg.

Experts say that NPE is an artificial chemical substance and is widely used in textile production.

When NPE is released into the environment, it will degrade into another more toxic environmental pollutant, nonylphenol (NP).

NP is an environmental hormone with persistence and bioaccumulation, and has strong toxicity to aquatic organisms.

It will disrupt the endocrine system of animals, cause the feminization of male animals and the hormonal imbalance of female animals.

It is understood that NPE is listed as priority hazardous substances in the protection of northeast the Atlantic (market, interrogation) Convention on marine environment (OSPAR).

In addition, the EU's REACH regulations prohibit the use of NPE and NP in most industries including textile production.

4-NP (4- nonylphenol) and 4-OP 4- (octyl phenol) have been listed in the list of highly concerned substances and will be eliminated first.

Similarly, the EPA also forbids the use of NP and NPE in detergents. NP and NPE are also included in the toxic substances release database (TRI) to control industrial emissions.

At present, China has included NP and NPE in the catalogue of strictly restricting import and export of toxic chemicals, and has placed NP in 58 categories of key chemicals, namely, the catalogue of dangerous chemicals (Draft) and the "12th Five-Year plan" for environmental risk prevention and control of chemicals.

In the 12 international brands, in addition to the detection of NPE in their children's clothing, it was found that 94.3% of the samples were printed with two phthalate esters.

In addition, all perfluorinated compounds are detected in children's clothing and footwear products with waterproof function (hereinafter referred to as PFCs), while organotin compounds are detected in children's shoes such as Adidas.

At the same time, all the samples of 36 children's garments containing polyester fabrics have been detected with antimony, which has similar arsenic toxicity.

"The above two chemicals, as well as organotin and perfluorinated compounds, are restricted in many countries and industries because of their recognized hazards."

The experts said that some of o-phthalic acid two esters had reproductive toxicity, which may affect reproductive organs development, which is related to the reduction of sperm count and infertility. It can enter the human body through hand and mouth contact, especially for children and pregnant women.

Adidas promised not to deliver poison

It is understood that up to now, 18 well-known enterprises have promised to achieve zero emissions of toxic and hazardous substances by January 2020.

Many brands such as Mango and Zara have begun to publish information about their suppliers' toxic and hazardous substances, but there are also brands like Adidas making promises without any substantive action.

According to the survey report, although internationally renowned brands including Adidas and Nike have already disclosed chemical substance management policies on the website, they are not yet complete. They still lack practical and detailed plans, and refuse to disclose information of toxic and harmful substances emitted by their suppliers to consumers, so they are considered to be "floating green".

In fact, the floating green brand products were also detected toxic substances in the test, for example, three samples of Adidas were detected high concentrations of volatile perfluorinated compounds and ionic perfluorinated compounds; Nike

High concentrations of volatile perfluorinated compounds were also detected.

It is worth noting that some of the leading brands of products were also detected toxic residues in the test.

For example, H&M's trousers contain high concentrations of ionic and volatile perfluorinated compounds; Uniqlo's waterproof jacket contains volatile perfluorinated compounds; C&A's children's shoes contain high concentrations of NPE; Puma's sneakers are detected with high concentrations of organotin.

"Effective and credible corporate detoxification commitments should aim at gradually achieving zero emissions of toxic substances in 2020, and include the following elements: core principles, information disclosure and total elimination."

The above experts believe that in the core principles, enterprises should clearly define the precautionary principle, zero emissions of hazardous substances, the responsibility of individual enterprises and the public's right to know.

Environmentalists appeal that the government should formulate relevant regulations and policies with strict standards, and publish a blacklist and elimination schedule for toxic and harmful substances as soon as possible.

At the same time, Burberry, Adidas and other brands are required to make non-toxic commitment as soon as possible, effectively eliminate toxic and harmful substances, and publicly use and discharge information, and receive public supervision to prevent further accumulation of toxic and harmful substances in rivers, threatening the environment and human health.

According to its introduction, at present, chemical manufacturers can provide safer alternatives, and their cost can be kept equal to toxic chemical supplies.

Therefore, it is hoped that those manufacturers will be able to use safer alternatives.
