Cotton planting area in Pakistan decreased by 4% to 2 million 700 thousand hectares over the same period 2015/16.

At present, the textile industry in Pakistan is also facing some problems. Domestic cotton production and quality can not meet the textile demand and power shortage, leading to high production costs.

Imports are also increasing, while domestic exports of cotton with relatively low quality are also increasing. It is estimated that Pakistan's cotton exports will increase to 87 thousand tons in 2016/17.
